AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE
Healthcare is a right and access to healthcare should be a top priority for all of us. No one can fully control when they get sick so why shouldn’t we approach healthcare to reflect that uncertainty that all of us have? Costs have risen far too much for most of us to afford our healthcare bills and live comfortable lives, and many of us live in fear of losing our healthcare at a moment’s notice. I want to enhance access to healthcare and to do that I support expanding Medicare and considering anything that will lower costs and increase choice. This would enable people to have access to healthcare regardless of who they work for, while preserving important drug and provider choices. It would also create a way to drive insurance costs down and make sure that no American must choose between food and healthcare.
MY PRIORITIES:
Expand Medicare to decrease the number of uninsured
Support initiatives to lower costs and increase choice
Support rural hospitals initiatives to make sure that no community, big or small, is without access to quality treatment or quality EMS services
Create federal support for first responders in underserved communities
Ensure that the costs and prices for hospitals and drugs are transparent, so that everyone understands what they are paying for and competition helps drive costs down
Enhance treatment for opioid addiction and increase alternative treatments to alleviate pain while moving our society away from this dangerous class of drugs
Ensure that the needs of seniors, such as long term care, are covered
Improve mental health coverage, which has effects across all aspects of society
Help hospitals invest in technologies that improve telemedicine, collaborative treatment strategies, and sharing information – improving the quality of healthcare as well as the access to it in more rural areas
