TAKING CARE OF OUR VETERANS
The brave men and women who have served in uniform deserve more. They put their lives on the line for all of us and fought to defend the democracy we thrive in today. However, we have a long way to go in showing them just how much we appreciate them. My previous work in the federal government sought to reduce fraud in the VA and improve the way that local and regional centers communicated with the Washington D.C. office. We need to build on some of that work to ensure that the system is as easy as possible to navigate, that veterans have the social and professional support required when returning to civilian life, and that we utilize the special skills our veterans have to enrich our communities.
MY PRIORITIES:
Provide support to the VA to improve communication and information sharing between centers
Increase choice for veterans in health care to include Medicare and increase the number of medical centers and services veterans have access to
Revitalize the GI bill to help veterans pursue higher education and emerging trades
Tie federal grant awards to veterans initiatives in universities and community organizations
Capitalize on qualities veterans possess to help those in national service programs and community outreach
Expand veterans services to help them choose the best possible care for them – care that is comprehensive and accepted everywhere
