SECURITY
The right to vote is one of the most treasured rights we have. As the ultimate expression of democracy, we have a responsibility to safeguard this right and ensure that our elections are conducted with integrity. The power of the people at the ballot box has come under siege, and we must act as a nation to prevent that power from being corrupted. There are several actions we can take to improve the sanctity of our elections, and make sure that no corporation or foreign power can tip the scales in favor of any candidate and work against the will of the American people.
MY PRIORITIES:
Create public support for federal election campaigns by enforcing equal time laws and having public utilities such as the airwaves and internet available for advertising.
Enact new legislation to make sure an individual’s voice is the same as a corporation and end Citizen’s United so that people once again have the power in elections.
Lower limits on campaign contributions to strengthen the power of every day Tennesseans
Support independent commissions to take charge of redistricting in states
Support initiatives to expand how we can vote – whether through mail in ballots or other secure technology
Hold social media companies accountable for truth in advertising and media companies accountable for accuracy in journalism
