LGBTQ+ RIGHTS
The LGBTQ+ community has made great progress through their resilience and collective action, but there is still more work that must be done. As an ally, I want to ensure that all citizens are treated with the respect and decency they deserve. No person should live in fear that they will be ostracized, harassed, or bullied for who they are. It is time to end the attacks on LGBTQ+ rights by breaking down more barriers, including those in housing, medical care, and visibility in the justice system. We need to work to better protect LGBTQ+ people in federal code and practice, pushing for equal opportunity in their daily lives, careers, and education. It must be abundantly clear that there is no place in our society for bigotry or attacks based on a person’s sexuality or gender identity. We need to ensure that the LGBTQ+ community is reflected in each policy we put forward. Every person in this country deserves to be seen, respected, and given a chance to live their life with pride and without fear.
MY PRIORITIES:
Enhance equal access to medical care to all LGBTQ+ Americans and the promotion of equitable access to affordable treatment
Protect LGBTQ+ Americans in legislation to protect them from unnecessary harms such as conversion therapy
Expand protections of LGBTQ+ youth by enhancing the curriculum to be inclusive and for schools to promote opportunities and space for LGBTQ+ youth, and addressing the numerous LGBTQ+ youth who are homeless
Eliminate old practices of giving less access to justice to LGBTQ+ Americans
Every LGBTQ+ American should be accounted for in our census to create spaces for the same chances to be heard as all other Americans
