<image:caption>As your Congressman, I will fight for our district and make sure that our government reflects the best of all of us. We have lost our way, but together, we can overcome a corrupt system that only works for a few and make sure we make government more responsible and effective. Join me, rise above the noise, and let’s take our country forward not as Republicans and Democrats, but as Americans.</image:caption>

<image:title>Affordable Healthcare - AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE</image:title>
<image:caption>Healthcare is a right and access to healthcare should be a top priority for all of us. No one can fully control when they get sick so why shouldn’t we approach healthcare to reflect that uncertainty that all of us have? Costs have risen far too much for most of us to afford our healthcare bills and live comfortable lives, and many of us live in fear of losing our healthcare at a moment’s notice. I want to enhance access to healthcare and to do that I support expanding Medicare and considering anything that will lower costs and increase choice. This would enable people to have access to healthcare regardless of who they work for, while preserving important drug and provider choices. It would also create a way to drive insurance costs down and make sure that no American must choose between food and healthcare.</image:caption>

<image:title>Infrastructure - INFRASTRUCTURE</image:title>
<image:caption>Our nation is only as strong as its infrastructure. The state of our highways, bridges, and airports are just a few of the examples we think of when we think of infrastructure, however, we also need to pay attention to access to broadband, clean water systems, waste water systems, more efficient modes of transportation, medical supply chains, and other projects that help our nation grow and thrive. Infrastructure is an investment in our future, with smaller investments in the millions paying dividends in the billions of dollars. Investing in infrastructure is our duty to future generations. It drives the economy, our people, and our success.</image:caption>

<image:title>Veterans - TAKING CARE OF OUR VETERANS</image:title>
<image:caption>The brave men and women who have served in uniform deserve more. They put their lives on the line for all of us and fought to defend the democracy we thrive in today. However, we have a long way to go in showing them just how much we appreciate them. My previous work in the federal government sought to reduce fraud in the VA and improve the way that local and regional centers communicated with the Washington D.C. office. We need to build on some of that work to ensure that the system is as easy as possible to navigate, that veterans have the social and professional support required when returning to civilian life, and that we utilize the special skills our veterans have to enrich our communities.</image:caption>

<image:title>National Defense & Foreign Policy - NATIONAL DEFENSE & FOREIGN POLICY</image:title>
<image:caption>Our role and reputation as the indispensable nation has been weakened by the actions of this administration. We are less safe than we were four years ago and are closer to the prospects of nuclear war, acts of terrorism, and global conflict than ever before. We must reform the way we defend our country while also improve our standing in the world. Where we were once looked to for guidance, we are now sometimes excluded from the conversation. We need to approach our standing in the world by better investing in our military and increasing our investment in our diplomacy. Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis once famously said that the less we invest in our State Department the more we have to invest in weapons. Diplomacy and defense work together, and when we are strong in both, we are stronger in the world.</image:caption>

<image:title>Protecting Workers - PROTECTING WORKERS</image:title>
<image:caption>Unions helped build industry in this country – they protect all of us who work, whether we realize it or not. During our toughest times, they were at the forefront of our industries to make sure we didn’t give up and kept moving forward. They also made sure that we treated our workers fairly as we embarked on the amazing success of the 20th and 21st century. Today there are fewer people who belong to unions than ever before, and for no other reason than a smear campaign on the part of big corporations. Unions helped us establish fair labor practices, a fair wage, safe working conditions, and a sense of family at our workplace. We owe our unions for many of the things we take for granted, including the expectation of reasonable work hours and vacation time – something that allows us to spend more time with our children. We need to encourage union membership, not limit it, because nothing is more democratic than a group of people coming together to fight for their rights, and the rights of everyone in the community.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The right to vote is one of the most treasured rights we have. As the ultimate expression of democracy, we have a responsibility to safeguard this right and ensure that our elections are conducted with integrity. The power of the people at the ballot box has come under siege, and we must act as a nation to prevent that power from being corrupted. There are several actions we can take to improve the sanctity of our elections, and make sure that no corporation or foreign power can tip the scales in favor of any candidate and work against the will of the American people.</image:caption>

<image:title>Education - EDUCATION</image:title>
<image:caption>This country has led the world in education at all levels. However, our public schools and colleges have fallen behind in terms of achievement and affordability. Education and training are the best ways to make sure our children stay above the poverty line and out of the criminal justice system. We also know that children who have access to pre-K are more likely to finish school. The positive effects on our society are immeasurable. Without access to quality education and training, families continue to lose the ability to choose their futures, and the nation struggles to remain competitive with the rest of the world. Should our children choose to attend a training program, school, or college after high school, I would support that all public colleges, technical schools, and training programs are free. We once decided that a high school education should be guaranteed – times have changed and we need to reform our system to reflect the options for education and training beyond high school. I would also support that the federal government guarantee interest free loans to those who choose to go on to any higher education. The dividends the country receives from these degrees are more than enough to justify the cost of the loans. Finally, for existing student loans, I would support initiatives that help borrowers to renegotiate interest rates to zero and expand current loan forgiveness programs such as the public service loan forgiveness program. To complement the approach to loans, an expansion of our national service programs would help recent graduates work with our communities and both be a benefit to those graduates as well as to our country.</image:caption>

<image:title>Economy - ECONOMY</image:title>
<image:caption>The United States economy is the strongest in the world. However, the unprecedented success we have enjoyed for the last decade is buckling under the pressure of bad economic decisions of the last few years. Additionally, the growth and success we have seen did not help everyone across Tennessee. Our goal should be to help all communities grow, not just the areas that can attract the biggest corporations. There are several things we can do to ensure this starting with infrastructure and education investments. Additionally, we cannot go to economic war with partners around the world. We cannot sacrifice historic growth for the whims of a few at the top, and we cannot break our middle class in favor of big corporations and banks. We need to encourage small businesses, innovation, our workers, our farms, and our factories. We cannot go on pretending that the system is working for everyone. Our middle class should pay less in taxes, and now do because of tax reform that started almost a decade ago. However, those breaks for the middle class also came at a heavy cost from the current administration. We let those at the top take advantage of taxes so low that they pay less than those of us living paycheck to paycheck. Finally, we let big corporations who have more money than most countries not only pay nothing in taxes, but receive a tax refund because of the way our tax code is written. This must change, for the hard-working Tennesseans in the district, for all our children, and for the future of this country.</image:caption>

We cannot blame responsible gun owners for the horrific crimes of a select few. Yet, we know that we must do more so that we can prevent some of these heinous acts from occurring again. <image:title>Strengthening Earned Benefits - STRENGTHENING EARNED BENEFITS</image:title>
<image:caption>I am committed to strengthening our earned benefit programs, including Social Security and Medicare. More and more people are depending on Social Security and Medicare as the primary source of retirement funds and health care. These programs have lowered the poverty rate among seniors and helped increased lifespans and quality of life. We owe it to our greatest generations to make sure they are taken care of after they spent their lives contributing to this country. We should be focused on strengthening these programs while also considering how they may need to evolve to respond to today’s economy and environment. I will work to make Medicare more affordable, solvent, and comprehensive. Additionally, I will look to restore the Social Security trust fund and make adjustments to ensure that the fund is healthy and robust. In my opinion this is what we should be doing, at a minimum, for the seniors in our communities.</image:caption>

<image:title>Safeguarding Our Democracy - SAFEGUARDING OUR DEMOCRACY</image:title>
<image:caption>We need to make sure that our democracy is once again the envy of the world and a source of pride for our citizens. Our reputation in the world has suffered, and we need to establish or regain our position of the global leader innovation, economy, human rights, and happiness. This is not just through programs or initiatives, but through the way we interact with one another and the way that we emphasize our civil society to future generations. We sometimes forget that we are family, and a community that only grows when we are united. This means that we get back to having conversations with our neighbors and when we disagree, working on ways to move forward together. It means that we don’t respond to the whims of social media or the media, but instead respond to the needs and concerns of our communities and respond to those concerns in a way that takes all sides into consideration. This is not an impossible task, just one we have left behind in many respects. Let us get to that concept of the United States of America that looks out for one another, that is the global leader in every way, and values the way we speak to one another especially when we disagree. We cannot forget that the role of the U.S. Congress is to act as a co-equal branch of government, not rubber stamping everything the President does or says but questioning the office to ensure that it is in the best interests of the country – no matter what party is in power. We cannot forget that the role of a Representative is to make sure that the interests of the district work with the interests of the country and together, move forward. Where we can contribute to our country we must, and where we can benefit from the country we should. By forging a path forward together, and coming together to create sensible, efficient, and effective government, we can move to a point where we aren’t paying attention to the next media headline or government hearing, but to where we can focus on what matters – our families and communities. Let us show our children that we have a hopeful and better future ahead of us, and working towards that better future is not just in our interests, but our responsibility as citizens of the greatest country on Earth.</image:caption>

<image:title>Climate Change - CLIMATE CHANGE</image:title>
<image:caption>Climate change is here and we can already see its effects. We have changing growing seasons, storm seasons, more powerful weather events, devastating coastal erosion, and water shortages – these have disproportionately affected our farmers, workers, and most vulnerable. Comprehensive climate change legislation will lead to a cleaner planet, job growth, better infrastructure, and a more just and equal society. To start, we need only look at the branches of our armed forces and the world’s biggest companies to see how strategies to adapt to a changing climate are already part of our defense and business communities. We need to take the next step and make sure we are fostering some of the change and innovation that will help us also become dominant in the technologies used to adapt to climate change. We cannot sit by and watch as other nations develop better solar, wind, geothermal, and nuclear technologies and facilities. Being a leader in these areas will not only enable us to build better green technology, but continue to innovate and expand our economic power. We can make sure that our companies are the leaders in the market, and to do so involves great research from our federal labs in conjunction with the research conducted in universities and the private sector. Together, we can make sure that clean air and water, a healthy planet, and a brighter tomorrow are not just dreams, but the expectations for our children.</image:caption>

<image:title>Women’s and Family Rights - WOMEN’S AND FAMILY RIGHTS</image:title>
<image:caption>We have come a long way but still have much to achieve in terms of women’s rights. With less choice over their health and body, less pay for the same work, and being forced to often choose between work and family, women deserve more. As a society, we need to ensure that women are not seen as second class citizens in the workplace and that discrimination of any kind is dealt with quickly and definitively. As men, we should make sure that we uphold these values in our behavior and interaction with our friends, colleagues, and children, among others. No woman should ever be made to feel like she is not up to a task, or treated as though she cannot handle a job just because of her gender. Similarly, we need to make sure the stigma surrounding women and their family is removed to help support our mothers and not penalize them. Finally, women should have sole control over decisions about their body, trusting them to make the hard choices that are right for them and best for their lives.</image:caption>

<image:title>Tech and Gig Economy - TECH AND GIG ECONOMY</image:title>
<image:caption>We still don’t know what the full impact of new technology will be on our economy. While we have strategies to help address automation and some versions of artificial intelligence, we also must look at the companies who profit off these systems and don’t pay their fair share in taxes. Similarly, our banks have continued to use algorithms that allow them to make billions on making automated trades millions of times a day. This is not only unfair to anyone else who wants to invest in the U.S. economy, but destabilizes our stock market by increasing volatility and the perception of how strong our economy is. We can make sure that these large corporations are paying as much as you and I are, and that you and I aren’t giving a government handout to any large corporation.</image:caption>

<image:title>Immigration - IMMIGRATION</image:title>
<image:caption>Since before my parents immigrated to the United States in the 1960s and 70s, seeking out better opportunities and a government that was not infringing on individual rights, we have seen the amazing ways that immigrants both contribute to and become a part of our communities. We have also seen a system become even more dysfunctional and move from a way to preserve our fundamental values as a nation of immigrants to a nation fearful of anyone who looks different from most of us. Immigrants become Americans and when they do, become part of a unique group of people who have chosen to be part of our rich heritage. We should encourage this path, and welcome those who flee oppression, persecution, and danger just as much as we welcome those who will teach in our universities or invest in our companies. It is the collective experiences of all who come to this country that makes us grow and remain the shining city on the hill.</image:caption>

<image:title>Law and Justice - LAW AND JUSTICE</image:title>
<image:caption>Our safety and security depends on the cooperation between civil society and law enforcement, and the accountability of those in uniform. I support community policing and engagement between police and the communities they protect. I also support reforming the criminal justice system to increase focus on treatment and rehabilitation and lower the number of people we incarcerate. While we reduce our dependence on contractors – putting the power of justice back in the hands of our civil society – I also want to increase training resources for law enforcement officers and help better allocate personnel based on emerging risks and concerns. Finally, our law enforcement agencies should have our support in sharing intelligence and capabilities. This is especially important as we strive to help our law enforcement agencies become more agile and fully execute their missions in a way that upholds our values.</image:caption>

<image:title>LGBTQ+ - LGBTQ+ RIGHTS</image:title>
<image:caption>The LGBTQ+ community has made great progress through their resilience and collective action, but there is still more work that must be done. As an ally, I want to ensure that all citizens are treated with the respect and decency they deserve. No person should live in fear that they will be ostracized, harassed, or bullied for who they are. It is time to end the attacks on LGBTQ+ rights by breaking down more barriers, including those in housing, medical care, and visibility in the justice system. We need to work to better protect LGBTQ+ people in federal code and practice, pushing for equal opportunity in their daily lives, careers, and education. It must be abundantly clear that there is no place in our society for bigotry or attacks based on a person’s sexuality or gender identity. We need to ensure that the LGBTQ+ community is reflected in each policy we put forward. Every person in this country deserves to be seen, respected, and given a chance to live their life with pride and without fear.</image:caption>
