STRENGTHENING EARNED BENEFITS
I am committed to strengthening our earned benefit programs, including Social Security and Medicare. More and more people are depending on Social Security and Medicare as the primary source of retirement funds and health care. These programs have lowered the poverty rate among seniors and helped increased lifespans and quality of life. We owe it to our greatest generations to make sure they are taken care of after they spent their lives contributing to this country. We should be focused on strengthening these programs while also considering how they may need to evolve to respond to today’s economy and environment. I will work to make Medicare more affordable, solvent, and comprehensive. Additionally, I will look to restore the Social Security trust fund and make adjustments to ensure that the fund is healthy and robust. In my opinion this is what we should be doing, at a minimum, for the seniors in our communities.
